    The Educational Gardens program

From the beginning of October 2022, 160 students from primary schools no. 1, 2 and 3 take part in the Educational Gardens program, which aims to provide lively and practical learning about vegetation and it’s proper care, as well as co-responsibility for the sustainable development of the city and the commune.

As part of the program, each of the primary schools in the city of Gryfino took care of one of green area in order to conduct lively nature lessons and engage students in practical learning to care for greenery. Primary School No. 1 will take care of the greenery on the waterfront, Primary School No. 2 – the area next to the sports and entertainment hall, and Primary School No. 3 – the area by the Communal Cemetery in Gryfino. In the above-mentioned areas, it is planned to plant new trees, shrubs and ornamental grasses as part of the project, therefore in spring 2023 children, equipped with appropriate tools, will be able to water and care for new planted plants.

Due to the start of the program in the autumn and winter months, the children began their adventure with greenery by cleaning up the areas where new recreational areas will be created as part of the project. They also got acquainted with the causes and effects of climate changes with the help of specially prepared educational folders. In addition, they planted seeds in pots on school windowsills: lettuce, red radish, parsley, white radish, garden cress, pansies and broad beans.

When the spring will come children will move with the care of greenery to designated green areas.
