Adaptation to climate change through the development of green and blue infrastructure in Gryfino
On 22th of December 2021, the Mayor of the Town and Commune of Gryfino – Mieczysław Sawaryn, signed a grant contract for the implementation of green and blue infrastructure in Gryfino. The action adapting the city space to climate change is co-financed by the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area (also known as the Norwegian Funds) for the years 2014-2021. The commune will receive over 4 millions PLN for this purpose. The project will be implemented in partnership with the Icelandic engineering company Verkís.
The aim of the “Environment, Energy and Climate Changes” program, under which Gryfino received funding, is to strengthen the resilience of Polish cities to the negative effects of climate change, raise public awareness of climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions at the level of local communities.
In the call for proposals for investments in the field of green and blue infrastructure in cities, 90 applications from all over Poland were submitted. Ultimately, co-financing was received by 19 communes, including Gryfino. The contract was signed on 22th of December 2021.
The eligible costs of the project are: 4 874 241,98 PLN, and the co-financing is 4 143 105,65 PLN (959 963,31 EUR), including:
– from the Financial Mechanism of the European Economic Area 2014-2021: 3 521 639,80 PLN (815 968,81 EUR),
– from the state budget: 621 465,85 PLN ,
– from the Gryfino Commune budget: 731 136,33 PLN.
The project will be implemented from 22th of December 2021 to 31th of December 2023.
